39 anglers gathered last weekend to contest this year’s
annual Spring Festival. The field was a lot more open than in previous years so
hopes were high that with an element of
luck and good fortune at the draw they would be leaving at the end of
the week with an extra few pounds in their pockets.

Despite warnings of gale force winds, tsunamis and other meteorological horrors, 34 anglers supported the popular Gadgers’ “rod and reel only” match held on both the Carp and Match lakes on Sat 8th March. This event is sponsored by Andy Phyllis of Magical Marking and is a refreshing change to fish solely with rod and reel and not to have to worry about rigs for “cheating sticks” and such. Giving the atrocious weather on the day the fact that poles were banned was a blessing in disguise with high winds and torrential rain, at one stage everyone ran for cover as it seemed as though the 11.45 Fishguard to Paddington express was making a detour through the middle of the Match Lake

Wednesday Open Match
With immediate effect the Wednesday Open match will now become a Golden Peg competition. This means that in the event of 10 or more anglers attending, an extra £1 will be charged and added to the Golden Peg Fund. Golden Peg entry on a Sunday is £20 all in, entry on a Wednesday is £17 all in.
Below is a breakdown of a typical Golden Peg payout

When the Golden Peg fund reaches £500, £100 will be deducted and added to the daily pools money. Golden peg fund then reverts to £400.
The £100 will be shared between the first four places on a Sunday on a 40%, 30%, 20% and 10% basis. On A Wednesday match the £100 will be divided between the first three places on a 50%, 30% and 20% basis.

This weekend saw the inaugral match of what will hopefully become an
annual event. The Willis Worms Winter Festival was held over two days,
alternating between the Carp Lake and the Match Lake. Kindly sponsored
by Denzil Thorpe of Willis Worms to the tune of an added £500 to the
prize money this was always going to be a keenly contested match.

As Ian's contribution to this increasingly popular week he is hosting a series of evening matches at Holgan Farm.
This popular annual event is this year being held between 21st and 29th June. We are grateful this year to FBM holidays who have kindly agreed to sponsor the festival to bring the prize fund for this years final to a guaranteed £750.
The Prize money will be as follows:
1st £300 + meal for two at the Bush Inn, Robeston Wathen
2nd £225
3rd £150
4th £75
Biggest Fish caught during the Festival will receive a £20 voucher donated by Brite Lites of Haverfordwest
A 3 hour qualifying match will be held every evening Monday to Friday. Draw taking place at 5pm, fishing will be from 6pm to 9pm. The top three anglers daily will be given a place in the final to be held on Saturday 28th. The final will be held on either the Tench or Match Lake. Draw 9am, fish 10am to 3pm.
