| 2007 Autumn Festival Overall Results |

51 anglers travelled from all parts of the UK this year to fight toe to toe to decide who takes home the prestigious Autumn Festival Trophy. It is interesting to note that most of the faces are regulars who have been fishing both the autumn & spring festivals for many years which is proof of the popularity of this event. Entries to both events are always over subscribed so you are advised to book early for next April’s Spring Festival. Spring Festival winner Steve Barraclough unfortunately couldn’t make the week due to his partner Emma giving birth to a baby. Our best wishes to them both. Fortunately last years Autumn Festival winner Craig Thompson from Wakefield did make the trip and set the festival off to a cracking start by winning his first match on the Match Lake with a weight of 48lb 2oz from peg 18. Could this mean more of the same with the trophy once again heading north? Not if local boy Mark Goodall from Milford Haven had a say in the matter. He drew peg 7 on the Tench/Crucian Lake and fishing to the lillies he caught crucians and tench for a similar weight of 46lb 8oz, a weight that would not be beaten on that lake for the remainder of the festival week. Due to the pressure on the lakes during festival week weights on the Tench/Crucian lake tend to diminish through the week and this year was no exception. Up on the Carp Lake fishing was relatively poor on a lake that is more than capable of producing 150lb+ catches, things there were happening at a much more sedate pace with John Leslie lookalike Tim Peters winning the lake with a weight of 56lb 7oz beating second placed Dave Cheetham by a mere 3lb. Wednesday’s match saw Colin Miles win the Match Lake with 41lb 9oz off peg 26. On the Carp Lake top honours went to Dean Bowerman who proved that peg 29 can still produce a winning weight when he weighed in 38lb 10oz. On the Tench/Crucian Lake Nigel Morris (Doris peg 14) and Dave Cheetham (peg 5) were fighting it out for first place. The result could have gone either way with both anglers giving it everything. At the weigh in it resulted in a dead heat for first place with both weighing in 26lb 0oz dead and gaining one point each. So with the final day approaching it was still anyone’s festival with the top five places seperated by only four points. The leader was Dave Cheetham on three points followed by Dean Bowerman on six, and Luke Sorokin, Nigel Morris and Mark Goodall on seven. A slip up on Friday by Dave Cheetham could cost him the festival so the pressure was on for him. All too soon Friday arrived with Dave Cheetham drawing peg 18 on the Match Lake, the very peg that reigning champion Craig Thompson had won from on the Monday so expectations were high that barring a catastrophe the trophy would once again be travelling north. Nigel Morris drew peg 13, a peg with no form whatsoever throughout the week, in fact reigning Fish o’Mania champion Clive Wright drew the very same peg on the Monday and could only manage 10th place. Contender Luke Sorokin drew a fancied peg 7 on the Tench/Crucian Lake while Mark Goodall drew peg 7 on the Carp Lake, a peg with reasonable form. Second placed Dean Bowerman pulled out peg 18 on the Tench/Crucian Lake, the same peg that he had fished the day before in an Open Match and gained 5th place. The festival was still wide open as Dave Cheetham struggled to catch on the Match Lake while Luke Sorokin was catching at a reasonable pace. Nigel Morris searched frantically for a hair to pull from his head as he tried valiantly to use all his local knowledge to winkle a few fish from a disastrous draw. Into the final hour and Dave Cheetham was well down the field and Luke Sorokin was looking favourite to steal first place and keep the trophy in Wales when with a final burst Dave caught two carp in the dying moments of the match to give him a weight of 24lb 8oz. This earned him second place on the day to Mark Goodsir on peg three with 27lb 4oz but the two points he gained was enough to give him an unassailable lead on the leader board. ![]() Congratulations to Dave on winning a hard fought match on a difficult venue. We look forward to next years Autumn Festival where the trophy will hopefully be back down south in its rightful place. Our thanks to Ian on another excellent festival , the craique was as good as ever, we look forward to seeing the same faces on the Spring Festival, as was mentioned earlier, places are already being filled so please book early to avoid disappointment. One final point, a mans’ ring was found on the lakes and handed in. I have it here, if the loser can give me a description and sends me their address on the back of a £20 note I will forward it on otherwise it goes on ebay.
