Sunday 18th November

Golden Peg Open - Sunday 18th November - 2007/11/19 01:10

With heavy dowpours of rain throughout Saturday night and the weatherman forecasting more of the same for Sunday together with a cold front descending on Holgan farm this was never going to be a record breaking match. And so it turned out to be when thirteen anglers tried their luck on the Carp Lake to fish a 5 hour match instead of the usual 6.
Holgan regular Keith Tuson drew the golden peg and settled in on peg 20, with the golden peg fund standing at £400 his confidence must have been high that another holiday was on the cards, his confidence was well founded when 15 minutes into the match he was the first to catch and bent into a "lump", only to lose it after a 15 minute tussle. This was an omen of what was to be for Keith, despite catching on a regular basis he was doomed from then on as it was more of the same for him.
No such problems for Neil Morgan on peg 3 though who was alternating 16 metres to the island and a waggler into deep water, fishing maggot as hookbait and was getting a bite a chuck, unfortunately not all bites were resulting in hooked fish but enough of them did to send him home to Caerphilly to a hero's welcome with a good weight on the day from a usually mediocre peg of 62lb 10oz.
Keith Moore (aka dark Horse) came in second from peg 21 with 34lb 8oz, Eric Rimmer on peg 9 won himself some beer money with some smaller specimens for a total weight of 25lb 12oz.
