Golden Peg Open-13th January 2008-Carp Lake

Golden Peg Open-13th January 2008-Carp Lake - 2008/01/13 23:10

What an horrendous day weather wise!!!!!!!!!!

With about 2" of rain falling during the match it became nigh on impossible to get out of the fishery because of the floods. Coupled with the 30mph wind gusting up, most participants took a right soaking with the exception of John Charlesworth with his Goretex suit. They might be expensive but boy do they work.

The golden peg was number 14 which was selected by Eric Rimmer who sat it out with the wind and rain in his face to match the number of his peg with 14lb of fish.

Jim Hutton was soon into fish on peg 21, fishing maggot on the waggler to the deep water short of the island and he managed a respectable 29lb 2oz.

However it was all happening on peg 4 with Richard Baldwin fishing a reported 10 pieces of corn on a hair rig on the bomb to the middle of the lake. Whether thats true can only be answered by Richard himself. By the way he thinks he is slim!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Charlesworth caught steadily throughout as did Ian on peg 12 and a last minute fish saw the latter take second spot.

1st Richard Baldwin........61lb 4oz.....Peg 4.
2nd Ian Heaps..............51lb 0oz.....Peg 12.
3rd John Charlesworth......48lb 0oz.....Peg 8.
4th Lewis Spink............39lb 4oz.....Peg 25.

With the Golden Peg not won the worth now stands at £232 and will be contested in two weeks time.

It was hard fishing today but the weights returned seem very respectable. Lets hope for somewhat drier weather next time we fish. Till then Tight Lines.
