Carp Lake Open-9th January 2008

Carp Lake Open-9th January 2008 - 2008/01/10 00:38

Eight anglers turned out in fairly awful conditions to pit their angling wits against each other today.

With every angler using waggler or bomb rods because of the conditions the outcome was in the balance.

Yours truly got off to a flier with a bite off the first chuck only to see a doubler disappearing across the lake with a hook length attached to it and not the rod. Non deterred the next chuck produced a 9lb fish. That was the end of that excitement for a couple of hours and no amount of feed could coax them back. That was until an hour before the all out when the swim came alive. Peg 20 seemed to be bouncing.

On the other side of the lake on peg 8 Ian was catching steadily all through the match fishing corn and/or maggot and feeding sparsely. On peg 21 Mike Williams was fishing to the island using triple maggot on the hook in two feet of water and feeding nothing but catching at regular intervals.

However neither Mike nor myself were good enough for the master and he ran out the easy winner with a fine mixed bag of crucians and carp.

1st Ian Heaps 84lb 12oz Peg 8.
2nd Mike Williams 55lb 10oz Peg 21.
3rd Keith Tuson 44lb 12oz Peg 20.
4th Jim Hutton 36lb 4oz Peg 6.
5th Lewis Spink 32lb 0oz Peg 23.

Not bad fishing for early January.
