4th Club Match-17th February 2008-Carp Lake - 2008/02/17 23:34
After
a heavy overnight frost it was decided to delay the start of the match
as ice had formed over two thirds of the lake. The draw however took
place at the normal time of 09.00 and the start delayed until 11.15. It
wasn't until just before the 'all in' that the ice broke up and shifted
into Neil Morgans peg causing him undue stress that he was never to
recover from. From this point a beautiful day ensued and there were
people the likes of Jim P. Hutton applying copious amounts of factor 15
to try and subdue his already ruddy complexion.
Both Jim Hutton
and Eric Rimmer were into fish straight away, and before Ian Heaps
could sit down on his box Neil Morgan was furiously scrapping with
another water based creature. Then everything went quiet for most with
the exception of the Rimmer man and Jim who were catching at regular
intervals.
On peg 26 Kevin Roberts was quietly going about his
business in his normal subdued manner catching carp of 3 pounds or
more, at more than a fish a chuck if you can believe him. Right up to
the finish he was was employed fishing at distance on the waggler using
sweetcorn to tempt any unsuspecting fish from its lair. It was at the
weigh in that he learned the valuable lesson of keeping less than 65lb
in one keep net. Although on this occasion it did not cost him
anything, but a lesson is learned.
It seemed that sweetcorn was
to be the bait of the day as on peg 23 Ian was now beginning to make an
impression on the already carping Eric Rimmer. However their private
battle was to prove just that 'a private battle', to which Ian was the
victor.
After 2 hours both yours truly and Mark Close hadn't had
a bite between them fishing on pegs 4 and 8 respectively. But
perserverance paid off and the final hours proved productive for both
pegs. Both of us fishing at 14.5 metres the late, late show took place,
with sly looks from either angler towards each other with the 'did you
lose that one, I am sorry' verbals being exchanged.
In between
them on peg 6 Eddie Urie (aka Jukebox) was also having a good match
catching and losing fish late on which probably proved costly in the
final analysis. The fact that Eddie nearly took a swim at the all out
is between him, Mark and myself, oh and now the whole world. Good save
Eddie!!!!!!!!!!!
1st Kevin Roberts...65lb 0oz.......Peg 26
2nd Keith Tuson.....45lb 8oz.......Peg 4
3rd Mark Close.......42lb 12oz.....Peg 8
4th Eddie Urie.........40lb 0oz.......Peg 6
5th Ian Heaps.........36lb 10oz.....Peg 23
6th Jim Hutton........36lb 2oz.......Peg 12
It
would seem that Kevin Roberts is the in form angler and is there to be
targeted, thats only a suggestion, but I know a man who can.
