Press Release - Junior League 2006 - 2006/12/18 15:06
Following
is the official press release regarding the 2006 Junior League. Well
done to Keith Tuson for his generous donation of the perpetual trophy.
And well done to Thomas Pratt for a brilliant win at the tender of age
of six. Anyone who thinks junior matches don't matter just look at the
proud faces on the group photograph.
It could not be closer, the beginnings of a newly formed Junior Fishing Club.
This
is the story of the success of a group of youngster from around
Pembrokeshire who have found the experience of Fishing as a new Sport.
With
the help of the Pembrokeshire River Trust, Pembrokeshire County
Council, Holgan Farm Coarse Fishery and Environment Agency Wales.
This story started back in the last week of June during Pembrokeshire Fish Week.
Former
World Champion, Mr Ian Heaps of Holgan Farm Coarse Fishery at Llawhaden
near Narberth. Inviting newcomers to the sport by giving a free days
fishing with tackle, bait and tuition provided.
The response was
so successful that a junior angling club was formed.. Coaching sessions
and a series of eight competitions followed. The final Match was on
Saturday 16th December 2006. Prior to the match the leader board could
not have been closer, with any one of the six leading points scores
capable of taking the overall individual championship.
At the
final weigh in, the youngest member 6 year old master Thomas Pratt from
Johnston was 2nd on the day with 7lb 14oz yet emerged as club champion
lifting the perpetual silver cup and tankard. The cup was donated by Mr
Keith Tuson and the tankard by Environment Agency Wales. All
Competitors received a medal and certificate from Helen Johnston
Project Officer Pembrokeshire River Trust.
Presenting the Keith Tuson Trophy was Councillor Rob Lewis cabinet member for Pembrokeshire County Council Sport Leisure.
Following the day former World Champion Mr Ian Heaps of Holgan Farm Fishery
said
how thrilled he was to see young newcomers to the sport catching lots
of fish and totally enjoying themselves. Stemming from this success we
will be repeating the same format during next years Pembrokeshire Fish
week. Saturday 23rd June 2007.
The club will continue and hopefully more new members to join us.
There
will be a limited number of places. Those interested could pre book by
phoning Mr Roger Pratt. Fishery Officer Environment Agency Wales on
