Carp Lake Open-20th February 2008
It was all very leisurely down at the lakes today. With a severe frost
expected everybody decided to take their time and when they arrived at
the lakes, guess what, there was no frost.
Peter Edwards was the
last to arrive and selected peg 24. Its a long time since he was able
to fish a Wednesday match and he wished it had been even longer as he
struggled to find bites whilst most people round him did O.K. Still,
Peter you have to be philosophical and remember that two days are never
the same in the angling world.
With no ice on the lake we were
hoping it was going to fish alright and for Dark Horse (aka Keith
Moore) that proved to be just the case. Selecting peg 12 an already
proven hot peg he was into fish straight away. Fishing 3 to 4 metres
short of the island on sweetcorn in around 5 feet of water he found a
tremendous amount of different sized carp. He continued to catch
regularly all through the match and with yours truly sat opposite him
on peg 19 he kept reminding me that fishing was easy, and with that
titter of his he was getting extremely annoying.
Ian Heaps had
picked peg 26. That produced the winner won on Sunday, and he was
eagerly asking Kevin Roberts at the start about what bait had been used
and where the fish were caught. Whether or not Kevin told him the truth
or not remains to be seen but whatever was said it did no harm to Ians
reputation as he proceeded to capture another 100lb bag of carp.
Meanwhile
Kevin Roberts and yours truly were having their own private battle. On
pegs 20 and 19 respectively the fishing was sporadic and quite quiet
for long spells but when the fish came over the bait they were decent
fish and proved good entertainment for us both. It was tight right up
to the end with both of us nailing a carp just before the all out. The
trouble was I got mine in and Kevin lost his and I pipped him for third
place. Don't despair Kevin you can't be brilliant every day.
On
peg 6 Eric was up to his normal tricks and catching in the morning. But
when it comes to the afternoon its as though he goes to sleep. Bless
the old codger he probably needs an afternoon nap.
1st Keith Moore.......153lb 7oz.....Peg 12
2nd Ian Heaps........112lb 4oz.....Peg 26
3rd Keith Tuson.......72lb 14oz....Peg 19
4th Kevin Roberts....70lb 0oz......Peg 20
5th Eric Rimmer......49lb 0oz......Peg 6
All
in all it was a very good days fishing with all nine anglers catching
but as you can see it was exceptionally good for the first five
anglers. An average of 90+lb for the first five places is pretty good
in my book and the message goes out, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING.
Anybody is welcome to join us on a Wednesday through the winter months.
The draw is at 09.00 and we fish from when we are ready to around 17.00.
