Nigel Morris visits Holgan Farm

Nigel with carp
A great catch
Top match angler Nigel Morris whilst out of work following a knee operation, came to Holgan Farm to demonstrate his favourite methods to suit each of our three lakes. This was featured in the November issue of advanced pole fishing magazine.

Nigel and Ian, complete with crutches drive around all three lakes. Nigel picks his peg on each lake and decides on his approach to catching on each.

The first peg Nigel chose was peg 9 on the Match Lake. Nigel fished in the margins with a 4 metre pole in 3 to 4 feet of water. For loosefeed he used chopped worm and caster whilst the hookbait was a 1 inch long head of dendrobena.

The next lake for Nigel to tackle was the Carp Lake, with fish approaching the 30lb mark, fishing the pole can be exciting to say the least!

The peg Nigel chose was peg 7 toward the middle of the lake, using a long pole and fishing on the bottom in 6 feet of water.

Using paste, made from HolganFarm's own pellets, using them as loosefeed and a pot full after every fish, Nigel caught 10 Carp weighing in at well over 70lb

The final peg was peg 14 on the Tench and Crucian lake. This lake is heaving with Crucians averaging 1lb and by feeding little but often (no more than 6 pellets twice a minute), the fish will rise in the water competing with each other for food

Using a traditional up in the water rig, bites come every cast however hooking them is a different matter and can be a nightmare. If however you use Nigel's method -no float at all, just a 10 inch hook length fastened to the end of the pole, with the pole tip just above the watersurface the fish simply hook themselves. A fish a cast is the norm using this method and you should also use a soft hook pellet for bait.

In no time at all you will have a netfull, as the picture left shows.

Many thanks to Nigel and Advanced Pole Fishing.
