11th March - Carp & Match Lakes
11th March - Carp & Match Lakes - 2007/03/12 13:35
Nineteen anglers turned up for the Sunday Open, most of them drunken revellers appearing from the undergrowth clutching beer cans. Luckily the proprietor turned up in time for the draw, clean shaven and immaculately dressed. Nice to see the older generation showing some decorum to the youngsters.

The match was fished on both the Carp and Match lakes, nice to see Nigel Morris return to winning form, with 2 gallons of beer inside him and a breakfast to choke a horse he strolled home with a weight of 81lb 4oz, followed by fellow drunk, Luke Sorokin with 60lb 4oz , in third place was yet another drunk, Mike Williams with a weight of 58lb 0oz. As a wise old sage once said, “You can’t beat local knowledge.”

With all the ASBO holders firmly entrenched on the Carp Lake, the other match went ahead at a much more genteel pace. Andrew Crocker went off like a steam train with a succession of fish in the early stages but couldn’t maintain the catch rate and eventually, Autumn Festival winner, Craig Thomson of Wakefield, fishing at 17 metres finally overtook him and went on to win the match by a close 2lb.

Overall results are:

CARP LAKE

1st Nigel Morris 81lb 4oz
2nd Luke Sorokin 60lb 4oz
3rd Mike Williams 58lb 0oz

MATCH LAKE

1st Craig Thomson 53lb 2oz
2nd Andrew Crocker 51lb 14oz
3rd Glen Westwood 33lb 6oz
